After he discovered the precious scroll, Ukunhururarklo immediately began work on deciphering the ancient Yanin into modern Yanin so that this important story could be shared with the wider public in Yaninland.

Initially, there was the challenge of simply unrolling the scrolls. They had been bound tightly for a thousand years or more and needed to be carefully unrolled. Ukunhururarklo was given a large space in the temple in which to work and so he set up very long workbenches and began to unroll the scrolls. He made archive copies of them, even to the detail of blemishes and stains as he unrolled them (see facsimile provided in the book and this site). He would then make working copies based on the archive copies. If he needed to refer back to the originals, it was done very carefully in a highly controlled environment. Not even beer or squirg were allowed in this room!

These working copies would be used to derive initial translations, often greatly emended based on new understandings of the syntax or grammar used by the ancient Yanin who had composed the ballad. Eventually, Ukunhururarklo was satisfied that the ballad had been translated into modern Yanin as best as he was able to given his current knowledge and resources available to him. He submitted the work for publication and the first edition of “The Ballad Of Kulakoonstru” was published. To universally positive reviews!
